Turn your MG U9 tub into secure storage — at the press of a button. The aluminium slats roll back into a slimline, DGL powder-coated black canister, driven by a quiet electric motor with a wireless remote and an in-tub control button. No app, no pairing — deliberately simple.
Cut specifically for the MG U9 tub and sitting flush against the factory body lines, this electric tonneau cover keeps the tray looking factory while giving you full tub usability.
It's also the base of the whole Akuma system. The T-slot side rails carry 100 kg dynamic on the standard brackets, and step up to 150 kg with roller support brackets fitted — enough for a tub rack platform, cross bars or a rooftop tent. Talk to our team for a tent-ready build.
Important — water ingress notice: The MG U9 has a one-piece cabin and tub design, so water may enter at the cabin (front) end of the tub when a roller shutter is fitted. Unlike a traditional dual-cab with a separate tub and cabin, there's no natural drainage path in this area. This is a vehicle design characteristic which affects roller shutter systems for this model.

Fitment
Will this fit my exact ute and trim?
This shutter is cut specifically for your ute model. Trim matters though — Hilux Rogue isn't SR5, Wildtrak isn't XLT. Send us your make, model, year, and trim, and a photo of the tub from the back if you can. We'll confirm the right bracket combination before you commit.
What if my ute already has a factory tonneau?
We don't recommend replacing a factory tonneau (e.g. Hilux Rogue EGR, BT-50 SP MT-EVO). Factory units are matched to the ute's body lines and resale value. If you've got one and want more capability, look at our tub rack platform or cross-bars instead.

Electric Operation
Do I need a mobile app to operate it?
No — and that's deliberate. You get a wireless remote for access from outside the vehicle and a control button inside the tub. No app, no Bluetooth pairing, no software updates. Simple and reliable for everyday use.
What happens if something is in the way when it closes?
The anti-jam safety system automatically stops the shutter if an object — or a hand — is detected in its path. It protects your cargo, your fingers and the motor.
Are the electronics protected from water and dust?
Yes. All internal electronics sit behind a sealed end cover that protects them from water, dust and tampering, on top of the full-perimeter EPDM seal and drainage hoses that protect the tub itself.

Use & Load
How much can it carry on top?
100 kg dynamic on the standard brackets — plenty for awnings, recovery gear and everyday loads while you're driving. Going heavier, like a rooftop tent? Add our roller support brackets to lift the rating to 150 kg dynamic. Talk to our team and we'll spec the right setup for what you're carrying.
Can I stop it partly open for tall loads?
Yes — better than a manual. The electric drive holds the shutter at any point along the track, not just fixed stages. Carry jerry cans or gas bottles with the shutter exactly where you want it.

Install, Warranty & Shipping
Can I install it myself, or do you fit it?
The kit ships with full instructions, brackets, hardware and drainage hoses. Fitting does involve some drilling — drainage outlets for the seals, and on some utes the brackets fix to the tub lip where there are no factory mounting points — plus connecting the shutter to vehicle power. If you're not comfortable wiring 12V accessories, book the Brisbane workshop fit at $599. Lead time normally within a week for in-stock parts.
What does the warranty cover?
24 months structural — slats, canister, mechanism, motor, brackets. Covers manufacturing and material defects under normal use. Doesn't cover damage from impact, modification, or unauthorised disassembly. Warranty claims go through your order details by email or phone.
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes. Local Brisbane pickup is free. AU-wide freight goes to your nearest transport depot for collection — door delivery available at extra cost. See the full shipping policy for state-by-state estimates.
