Edition III
Built for
tub geometry. Not against it.
01 — Why It Exists
Most hardshell rooftop tents are roof-rack tents that hope they'll work on a ute. The K'gari V3 is engineered around the dimensions of a standard dual-cab tub — 260 mm closed for garage clearance, 228 cm of open sleeping length once it's up.
At 34,200 cm² of mattress area, the K'gari sleep zone runs 10–30% larger than most tub-mount hardshells on the Australian market.

Closed: 150 × 120 × 26 cm. Low profile — low enough to keep the rig under most garage doors and clear of branch strikes on tight tracks. Open: 228 × 150 × 120 cm. At 34,200 cm² of mattress area, the K'gari sleep zone runs 10–30% larger than other tub-mount hardshells on the market. Mounts on the Akuma 4×4 Tub Rack Platform or Cross Bars, Proglide System or on most aftermarket racks.

Chapter 02 — Australian Conditions
Heat, wet,
corrugations. Sorted.
Cape York heat, Tanami corrugations, Top End wet season, Snowy high country — the tents that survive Australia are the ones designed for it from the start. The K'gari V3 shell is high-grade impact-resistant aluminium and stainless, UV-rated for prolonged sun exposure, with an aerodynamic profile that quietens long-distance highway runs. Rigid hardshell construction means no flapping in 80 km/h crosswinds and no canvas fatigue after a year on a roof. Tested here, Supported here.

04 — Four Reasons
Four reasons
this is the one.
Setup speed is table stakes. Every hardshell has gas struts. What separates the K'gari V3 is what happens after you're set up — climate control, condensation management, power, and a sleep zone sized to keep two adults comfortable without compromising the tub-mount footprint.
01
Dual A/C + Heater Ports
Two integrated outlet ports take a portable climate unit for 40°C Top End nights or sub-zero high-country mornings. Not standard equipment on the established tub-mount competitors we've cross-checked — this is K'gari-specific.
Unique to V3
02
Dual-Side Condensation Ports
Condensation is the #1 complaint about hardshell tents. Most brands ship an anti-con mat and hope. We engineered dedicated condensation management ports on both sides — the result is a dry sleep zone after a cold night, not a wet one.

Worth the V2 → V3 Upgrade
Took the K'gari V2 across the Tanami last winter — bulletproof. Just upgraded to V3 specifically for the climate ports. Two nights at minus three in the high country, ran the heater all night, woke up dry. That's the difference.

Setup Time Is Real
Two minutes start to finish, gas struts do all the work. Comes off the tub easily when I don't want it mounted on my ute. After 3 years on a softshell, this is night and day.

Compared, Measured, Bought.
Spent weeks comparing tub-mounts before pulling the trigger. The K'gari was the only one that solved my sailplane fitment with the matching Proglide. Love how it keeps everything low profile. Finish quality is up there with the best of them.

08 — Straight Answers
Everything you
need to know.
We pulled the questions customers actually ask before they buy — fitment, install, condensation, comfort, warranty. Honest answers, no fluff. Can't find what you need? Talk to us directly.
Will the K'gari V3 fit my Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, BT-50, Triton, Navara, Amarok or LandCruiser 79?
Yes — the K'gari V3 is sized to mount within the tub length of every common dual-cab ute on the Australian market. It pairs natively with the Akuma 4×4 Tub Rack Platform, the ProGlide Sliding Platform, and is cross-compatible with aftermarket cross-bars and tub racks.
Trim matters: Hilux Rogue isn't the same as SR5, Wildtrak isn't XLT. Send us your make, model, year, and trim — and a photo of the tub from the back if you can. We'll confirm the right bracket combination before you commit.
Do I need a roof rack to fit this tent?
Not a roof rack — the K'gari mounts inside the tub on a platform or cross-bar system. Three options depending on your ute:
Akuma Tub Rack Platform or Cross Bars — for utes with a clean tub. Zero rear overhang.
Aftermarket cross-bars or tub racks — if you already have a compatible system fitted, the K'gari is cross-compatible.
Akuma ProGlide Sliding Platform — for utes with sports bars or sailplanes (it's a separate platform product that pairs with the K'gari for those builds).
What it doesn't need: your roof. Roof rack, roof load rating, garage clearance, fuel economy — all unaffected.
Will it sit within my tub length without rear overhang?
On a standard dual-cab tub with no sports bar or sailplane: yes. The closed footprint is 150 × 120 × 26 cm — sized to sit within the tray length of every common Australian dual-cab without rear overhang. Open sleeping zone extends to 228 cm, but only on deployment, and only upward — the closed shell stays within the tub.
If you've got a sports bar or sailplane: you'll need the Akuma ProGlide Sliding Platform, which mounts above the cabin furniture and allows the tent to slide rearward to deploy clear of the obstacle. There will be deployed overhang while the tent is in use, but no overhang while travelling.
Can I still use my tub for storage with the tent fitted?
Yes. The K'gari mounts on the tub-rack platform above the tray. Tub volume underneath stays usable — pair with the Akuma roller shutter for weather-sealed lockable storage that doesn't fight the tent for space.
02
Comfort & Climate
How does the K'gari handle condensation on cold nights?
Better than anything else in the AU hardshell market. We engineered dedicated condensation management ports on both sides of the shell — purpose-designed for moisture control during extended cold-weather use. There's also an anti-condensation mat positioned beneath the mattress.
Most competitor hardshells offer a single anti-con mat and hope. We solved it at the shell.
Can I run a portable A/C or heater inside?
Yes. The V3 has dual integrated outlet ports specifically for portable climate units — heater for high-country winter, A/C for Top End summer. As far as we know, this is the only hardshell rooftop tent on the AU market that integrates both.
How big is the sleep zone really?
228 × 150 × 120 cm internal when deployed. Comfortable for two adults plus gear. 40 mm high-density foam mattress with removable washable cover. Large mesh zip windows for airflow, integrated roof window for stargazing.
Is there interior lighting and power?
Yes — dual COB LED system with multiple brightness settings, plus USB, 12V cig socket, and an Anderson plug for external-battery integration. Charge phones, run a fridge underneath, light the bed without a head torch.
03
Setup, Install & Durability
How long does setup take?
Under two minutes, single-handed. Gas struts do all the work. Pack-down is the same. Heavy-duty travel lock holds the shell down at highway speeds.
Can I install it myself, or do you fit it?
Both. The K'gari ships with full instructions and all the hardware. If you're handy with a socket set, an afternoon job. Or book the Brisbane workshop and we'll fit it — quoted per job, lead time normally within a week for in-stock parts.
How long do hardshell rooftop tents last?
A well-built hardshell with rigid construction and UV-rated materials should last 10–15 years with normal care. The K'gari V3 is aluminium and stainless — no canvas fatigue, no fading shell. 24-month structural warranty on top.
How does it handle highway wind?
The aerodynamic shell profile reduces drag and noise on long-distance hauls. Sitting in the tub (lower centre of gravity than a roof-mounted unit) also helps stability in crosswinds. No flap, no rattle, no surprises at 110 km/h.
04
Buying, Shipping & Warranty
Do you ship Australia-wide?
Yes. Local Brisbane pickup is free. AU-wide freight goes to your nearest transport depot for collection — door delivery available at extra cost. If you are bundling with other goods and the pricing looks high, give us a shout. We will scan for consolidated options.
How does the K'gari V3 compare to other tub-mounted hardshell tents?
The tub-mount hardshell category is small but well-developed in Australia. The K'gari V3 sits at the upper-mid pricing tier with several measured differences vs comparable units:
Open sleeping length: K'gari V3 at 228 cm vs ~210 cm typical in the category — about 18 cm of extra length.
Width: 150 cm — same as the larger units in the category.
Mattress area: 34,200 cm² — 10–30% more than the comparable tub-mount hardshells on the market.
Sports-bar / sailplane utes: the K'gari pairs with the Akuma ProGlide Sliding Platform. Patented by Akuma 4x4 and the perfect match to keep your tent low and maintain your saiplane.
Mattress: K'gari V3 ships with 40 mm high-density foam. We also have a self inflating option available as an add-on for that extra comfort.
Climate ports + condensation management: K'gari V3 has dual A/C and heater ports plus dual-side condensation management.
The honest summary: if open length, sports-bar compatibility, climate ports, or condensation ports matter most, K'gari is the better answer.
How does the K'gari V3 compare on price?
A$3,250 sits the K'gari in the upper-mid-market tier — in line with the established tub-mount hardshells on the AU market, well below the premium-tier roof-mount imports. On open sleeping length the K'gari is longer than the comparable units we've measured, and on mattress area it runs 10–30% larger. For sports-bar and sailplane utes, the K'gari pairs with the Akuma ProGlide Sliding Platform — a separate platform product, but worth knowing about if your ute has cabin furniture in the way.
What does the warranty cover?
24 months from purchase on the structural product — shell, mechanism, frame, brackets. Covers manufacturing and material defects under normal use. Doesn't cover damage from misuse or modification. Warranty claims go through your order details — email or call.
Can I pair it with the K'gari Annex Room?
Yes — the K'gari Annex Room is purpose-designed to zip directly onto the V3 base, creating a fully enclosed, weatherproof ground-level extension. Stack it for family camping, extended trips, or just somewhere to change clothes that isn't the front seat.
